Calling All Hallows

I have grown up surrounded by women who know how to make a home beautiful and festive. My grandmother, mom, and now sister all have their own way of making their homes beautiful, seasonal, and inviting. To me it's a huge part of what defines being a grown up Southern woman.

So even though I'm not in the South and I'm not in a house, I wasn't going to let Halloween slip by. (It also helped that my mom sent me a care package of decorations.)

Halloween's not 'till Thursday!! It's not too late to throw something spooky up in your house!!!

Currently Coveting

Fall has hit hard which means New York winter is close behind. Here's some of the pieces I'm wishing for to get me through it. Disclaimer: I really like black but who doesn't.

1) Sherpa and moto-esque. I'm on board. (Urban Outfitters)
2) The Hunter x Rag and Bone collection is everything. The maroon is a pop of color that is still drudgy brown snow appropriate. (Hunter)
3) Totally stole these from a friend's blog. But I want them so much. (Frends)
4) The smallest, classiest little Marc Jacobs there could be. (Marc by Marc Jacobs)
5) My iPhone upgrade is looming, and I want this to encase it. (Marc Jacobs)
6) Oak knows black and draped. So therefore, they know me. (Oak NYC)
7) See black can be fun! (J.Crew)
8) Chic black leather gloves make everything classier. (Kate Spade)
9) I won't even tell you what my keys hang off of right now. But I wish it was this little diddy. (Claire Vivier)

Easy Does It

I posted a picture of my breakfast on Instagram yesterday not thinking anything about it. But I got a lot of comments from friends saying, "How do you have time to do that?" (we have studio at 9 am three days a week), "I can't afford that". But it was so easy! And literally took 5 minutes to make. For the past year I have blatantly defied most of the dorm living stereotypes, it doesn't work for me. I am a girl who likes quality and who likes her stuff. So I want to share easy ways to make living in your dorm a little more luxurious. Given, I've always lived in a dorm that has a kitchen, which helps.

Salmon Sunny Side Up:

Ingredients:
1 egg
1 piece multi-grain bread
1 small package smoked salmon
goat cheese
black pepper
small splash of olive oil

Steps:
1) Heat the splash of oil in your frying pan, while it's heating put your bread in the toaster
2) Crack egg in the pan, heat on only one side until the egg white is pretty firm (aka sunny side up)
3) While everything is cooking, un-wrap goat cheese and salmon
4) Put your toast on the plate, your egg on the toast (you don't need to butter it, the oil does that for you)
5) Using a fork, scrap goat cheese and flakes of salmon on top.
6) Sprinkle with black pepper.
7) Enjoy!

How easy is that! The only thing that can be a little expensive is the smoked salmon. It can be between $8-$10 depending on what kind and where you buy. But when I get it I just don't buy something else I usually get that week.

Try it and let me know what you think!
And if y'all would be interested in more easy college living improvement ideas, let me know. I'm thinking about making it a series.

The Roster

I am finally wearing a sweater, everything is appropriately fall themed: life is good.

1) A spot of nice in a sea of snark:

2) Preparing to get festive with a care package from my Momma:

3) I am learning to knit:

And Purl Soho is making it so easy.

4) Warm flowers from my man bringing in the season:

Saving Sunday

Evan and I have gotten into a weekend routine that, while somewhat counterintuitive, is really sitting well with me. We do whatever we want on Friday night, then take most of Saturday for ourselves individually, including getting all (or the majority of) our work done for Monday. It makes Saturday more of a work day, but it leaves us free all day Sunday to enjoy ourselves without 100 pages of reading looming over our heads.  Yesterday we went to Ikea for fun in Red Hook and then explored Brooklyn Heights. Definitely put me in a great mood to start my week.

Hope everybody kicked off their week right!

The Roster

It's finally October which makes me exceptionally excited because fall is my favorite. But it's still 80 degrees outside. There is so much going on this week that makes no sense to me.

1) This crazy little cracked out monkey at the Central Park Zoo:

My acting homework over the weekend was to go to the zoo and observe animals. I have no idea why. I love theater shcool.

2) I recently discovered that Whole Foods puts a bunch of coupons on their website every week:

But I still spent $40 and I used the coupons on Mac and Cheese so I don't know how large of a victory it was.

3) A pretty latte on a much needed mental health Saturday with a girlfriend:

5) In case you, like me, despite all you time spent in AP US Government, were also completely unaware that the government can shut down (????????!) and don't really understand how that is even a thing or how it works, allow Ferris Bueller and Co. to explain.

The always appropriate, Mean Girls, chimes in too.

I'm gonna go cause some kind of anarchy because the way this week is going, nobody will notice.

Happy Wednesday!
