The Roster

My momma comes to see me tomorrow!! So excited.

 1) Eurydice:

This past weekend marked the end of my internship with Planet Connections Theater Festivity and the run of Eurydice, my first production in New York! I didn't have a very big part, but I got to work with some wonderful people and be part of a truly gorgeous show. I was very proud of it!

2) Sippin' in the Summer:

Pre- dinner drinks at Ippudo.

The mint lemonade at Le Pain Quotidien.

3) Food euphoric selfies with my buddy:

Cannoli's in Little Italy.

In Central Park after Wafels and Dinges.... Evan came to NYC for essentially 48 hours to see my first New York play.

4) Talented people I know being talented:

At my first high school I was in an acapella group with the insanely talented William Gittens. Flash forward a few years and he's at Berklee and is up to be Youtube's male artist of the month!! He is an incredible musician, a great guy, and comes from one of the most wonderful families I've ever met. Vote for him HERE!

5) This post is sponsored by Wendy Davis:

I'm all for ya homegirl.

Additionally, happy f#@* off DOMA day y'all.

Westward

Spent a day milling around the West Village last week. I don't go very often because it's not a short enough walk to just go on a whim, but there's no convenient train path from where I live... It was definitely worth the jaunt.

this one's for Justin

If that's not the most perfect thing you've ever seen, then I don't know what you're doing with your life.

No Business

Here is my very delayed post on Tony's fashion!!!
I have a show going into tech tomorrow, thus the crazy schedule and late posts.
ANYWAY.

As someone training to hopefully someday BE at the Tony's, it makes me sad that the lovely ladies of the Great White Way have to work so hard to find something fabulous to wear. Because they are not mainstream Hollywood actors, designers aren't as willing to loan out their couture. Which is a shame.

The Ladies of the Smashed Smash:

Debra Messing
I personally think that Debra Messing is beautiful and generally underrated when it comes to her acting. She is, however, hitting the "just below average" button real hard with this one.

Krysta Rodriguez
This girl is a goddess and is a Broadway actress with short hair which makes me covet her. Plus I loved her before Smash made her kind of a thing. I almost adored her dress until the sassy lining went under the sea.

Megan Hilty
Sigh. Such a talented and gorgeous (real shaped) woman who is so underpaid, she couldn't afford the bottom half of her dress.

Other Ladies of Note:

Jane Krakowski
Eh. I get it. It's sparkly. I see you.

Cicely Tyson
OH MY GOD I'M NOT EVEN MAD. This is great regardless of the mental condition in which it was selected. Sane or delusional, it's funny either way.

Valisia LeKae
You know she was so excited to wear this dress and to be at the Tony's and stuff. But Diana Ross would not approve.

Laura Osnes
I realize the gothic princess thing was probably in an attempt to avoid the unavoidable Cinderella thing (and to, you know, wear a different ball gown than she wears every night). But I think it's trying just a little too hard to be like, DIFFERENT. See!!!! I'm different from my character!!! Seeee?????

Scarlett Johanason
Your laid back "I just showed up here" attitude and outfit MIGHT be excusable if you had been any good in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Like any good AT ALL.

Anna Kendrick
Anna Kendrick is currently working on the film adaptation of The Last Five Years, which I am (tentatively) optimistic about. Her weird, sheer boob panel seems to be a sign of humility, as if to say "It's okay Megan Hilty, I too am a player of the boards, I will be frugal with fabric as a sign of solidarity."

Goddesses Who I Wish Would Adopt Me:
Stephanie Block
The fiercest, most toned carrot there ever was or ever will be.

Bernadette Peters
God this woman is always perfect. Always. That color is everything.

Patti LuPone
"Hey f@#&*$#, I'm Patti Lupone, and I'm gonna jump rope with this telephone cord around my neck while I talk to you and do a shot. Because I'm Patti F@#&*# Lupone!"

Patina Miller
I was so happy she won. But this is exactly what I meant about getting the leftover couture. Like that hasn't been seen on someone on a carpet yet for a reason.

Audra McDonald
She is like the most beautiful black and white cookie and I say that in the most sincere way possible. I also have a theory that Audra McDonald, Patina Miller, and Michelle Obama all get together once a week for margs and a good round of tricep dips.

Moments at MoMA

I spent an afternoon at the Museum of Modern Art about a week ago and it really got me thinking. I originally went to see the Rain Room, but the line was two hours long so I just meandered around for an hour and a half.

While I was exploring, I remembered the last time I had been to MoMA, in a large group towards the beginning of the year. One of my best friends, Nidhi, was obsessed with one of Dali's paintings. When we finally found it, she just stood in front of it for at least half an hour and cried. Just looking at the thing. The rest of us kind of laughed at her and ran around taking hipster looking pictures and instagraming our hearts out, proving that we were cultured.

On my solo trip, I started out doing the same thing, but somewhere between floor 3 and floor 4, I realized that I was spending much more time looking at the art through the lens of my iPhone and hardly any just looking at it with my own eyes. What's the point of that?

Once I put the phone down, I was able to really enjoy and appreciate what I was looking at. No matter what filter you put on it, nothing will ever look as cool as a Pollock, Monet, Picasso, Dali, or Cezanne (who I discovered is one of my favorites) does in real life. I flashed back to Nidhi (who notably doesn't have an instagram) standing in front of that painting and thought, maybe she has the right idea after all.

So, I'm sorry there aren't more expertly cropped and enhanced cell shots of my trip, but I'm learning to be okay with it. You'll just have to go look for yourself.
